Scene of the Week: Necessary Roughness

There are not many rules that I need an action movie to follow. However, there is one that I need an action movie to include or I want nothing to do with your movie. If there is a bar in an action movie, there must be a bar fight or you might as well turn around and get out of town. While this rule is only for action movies, it brings joy to my heart when it happens in a non action movie. Necessary Roughness is one such movie that while being a sports/comedy about a ragtag football team still manages to include the top rule of action movies.

This week’s Scene of the Week features the Fightin’ Armadillos of Texas State doing a little team bonding at the local watering hole. Things go a little sideways when members of Texas Colts have a slight disagreement with the Armadillos. QB Paul Blake (Scott Bakula) tries to defuse the situation, only to get the ruckus started as the insult to his center that was just too much. Based on the bartender’s (I see you Allan Graf) call to the sheriff, this fight is not uncommon for Billy Bobs and I am forever grateful for the all out barroom brawl, no matter what genre of movie.
