Scene of the Week: Van Damme vs. Stallone

If you believe the Hollywood rumors, Jean-Claude Van Damme was offered a role in 2010’s The Expendables but Van Damme turned it down because in his view, the character that was pitched to him had no substance. A wise man once said performer’s issues usually center around two things, cash and creative. So I tend to believe the rumor.

If it is true, Sylvester Stallone did not make the same mistake twice, and when The Expendables 2 needed its top villain… he turned to Jean-Claude Van Damme to play Jean Vilain.

One of the more shocking moments that happens early on in The Expendables 2 is when Vilain dispatches of the junior member of The Expendables team, Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth), in cold blooded fashion.

That moment set up the inevitable act of vengeance with Stallone’s Barney Ross going mano y mano with Van Damme’s villain during the movie’s climax. You can relive this epic confrontation in this week’s Scene of the Week…
