Bullet Points: Alone (2020)
COVID-19 has made terms such as social distancing, self-isolation, global pandemic and quarantine part of our everyday vocabulary. Although Alone was filmed before the events of 2020, it does explore themes that might feel too real to some viewers.
- The Plot: A global pandemic forces a young man into quarantine and self-isolation. When all hope feels lost, he accidentally starts a relationship with the girl from across the street. Due to their circumstances, they are forced to social distance from each other. Will they ever be closer than 6 feet apart? Alone stars Tyler Posey, Summer Spiro and Donald Sutherland. It is directed by Johnny Martin and written by Matt Naylor. It has a runtime of 92 minutes, and it is Rated R for man butt, a glimpse of side boob, mild adult language, dull video blogging and frightening scenes involving people who resemble zombies.
- #Alive: If you have Netflix, there’s a chance you’ve stumbled on the Korean zombie flick, #Alive. If you have seen the film, you might think you are experiencing Deja Vu while watching Alone. Matt Naylor wrote both films. Both films share almost the same plot. #Alive is in Korean. Alone is in English. Alone is probably best enjoyed if you have not seen #Alive. In my opinion, Alone is more action driven, while #Alive is more character driven.
- Tyler Posey, Donald Sutherland and The Girl Next Door: I don’t know a lot about Tyler, but I believe he has a lot of fans due to his Teen Wolf television series, which used to air on MTV. He is the actor that has the most screen time by a country mile. If you are a fan, I am sure you will want to watch. Now, if you are a huge Donald Sutherland fan, let me give you a warning, his role is an extended cameo. As for Summer Spiro, she is the “girl next door”. She does not do much, but I did not have a problem with her acting.
- Zombies: I don’t think I heard zombie used in the film, but that’s what they are. They are fast. They talk. They jump high. They don’t deteriorate like a lot of Walkers. They do like flesh. They have poor biting skills. They are known as Screamers. However, none of them wear a Ghostface mask. I did hear a lot of them ask to be killed. That’s what I did like about Alone, it takes a somewhat different look at a Zombie Apocalypse. I have seen a lot worse zombie flicks.
I think I have said enough about Alone. You should know what you are getting into if you decide to watch. Alone is currently available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital.
But wait, here’s some Bonus Bullet Points…
- My Quote/ Blurb You Can Use to Market Alone: Alone is a Relevant Movie in Today’s COVID-19 World.
- Favorite Quote from Alone: “You’re a fuckin’ ninja” said by Tyler Posey about himself as he roped off a building.
- House of Wax: Robert Ri’chard has a very small role in the film. You might remember him as Paris Hilton’s boyfriend in the criminally underrated House of Wax.
