Yaphet Kotto was born in New York City on November 15, 1939 …Well, the year really doesn’t matter because if there is one thing I have learned by following Mr. Kotto on Facebook, it is that he does not take too kindly to outlets that falsely report his birth year
And if there are two things I have learned by following Mr. Kotto on Facebook, it is that you shouldn’t hold his Instagram account hostage because he’ll just tell you to “eat his Instagram account”.
But I am not here to talk about Yaphet Kotto and his social media antics, I am here to celebrate the man on his birthday.
Yaphet Kotto is one of those actors who instantly makes whatever project he is in better. I have enjoyed his work in movies like Live and Let Die, Alien, The Running Man and my all-time favorite Yaphet Kotto film, Eye of the Tiger.
As part of the Blaxploitation Boom of the 1970’s, Yaphet Kotto landed roles in movies like Friday Foster along side Pam Grier and opposite Isaac Hayes in Truck Turner. This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look back at 1974’s Truck Turner and more specifically the final fight between Mac “Truck” Turner (Isaac Hayes) and the dastardly and debonair Harvard Blue (Yaphet Kotto)….
