Bullet Points: Contracts
Contracts stumbled across my desk here at Bulletproof Action headquarters, and I figured why not give it a watch. After viewing the trailer, I had a feeling this flick would be in the center of my movie watching wheelhouse. They say trailers sometimes do not tell the whole story. Let us see if that is the case with Contracts…
- The Plot: I can sum up the plot of Contracts in two sentences: A group of elite assassins become the hunted, when they start being killed one by one. It is up to the survivors, to figure out what in the holy damn hell is going on. Contracts is written and directed by Alex Chung. He is also the main character, the fight choreographer, the film’s producer and the editor. You can tell he has his hands full. Sometimes, when you are so involved with a project, you tend to excel in some parts and not be as successful in others. I will say this: The action is insane.
- The Action: I wish Contracts only had fight scenes. It excels when there is fighting on the screen. Alex Chung is a damn good fighter, and perhaps, an even better fight choreographer. In my opinion, the fighting is heavily influenced by Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Donnie Yen and the cast of The Raid. The insane 2 vs. 1 final boss fight is one to be seen. The blood throughout was practical, and I have seen worse gun muzzle effects.
- The Acting: Do you ever hit the fast forward button to get to the good parts? The good is the action, the not so good is the rest. I was not interested in the plot. It did not make much sense. It has way too many twists and turns. I have seen worse acting, but if you watch Contracts just for the acting and the plot, that would be the equivalent to watching a XXX rated film for the acting and the set decorations. It is something most people would not do. I am leaving it up to you if you want to watch Contracts. The fighting is worth watching, the rest, not so much.
Bonus Bullet Points…
- Mike Tyson Moment: Do you like movies where a character takes a bite of another character’s ear and spits in out? If you answered yes, then Contracts might be the movie for you.
- Runtime: 75 minutes.
- Alex Chung: I might not be the biggest fan of Contracts, but by watching, I am now a fan of Alex Chung. I honestly believe he has a bright future.
