Bullet Points: Mosul
Do you like action movies? Of course you do! You check out Bulletproof Action because we are your trusted source for all things action. I had an early look at Mosul. It is coming to Netflix on November 26th. Believe me when I say: Mosul puts the A in action with almost every scene. It is the closest thing to nonstop realistic action I have seen all year. If you are not excited yet. Perhaps my review will wet your appetite?
- The Plot: Rookie Iraqi cop Kawa (Adam Bessa) is rescued from an insane firefight by the elite Nineveh SWAT team. He is immediately recruited into the rogue squad. The squad consists of ten badass commandos led by the battle tested Major Jasem (Suhail Dabbach). The SWAT team plays by their own rules. They are always under the threat of attack, but they are determined to restore order to Mosul, which has become an enemy base for ISIS and a lawless territory. Will anyone be left standing when the last gunshot is fired? Mosul is written and directed by Matthew Michael Carnahan and produced by Anthony and Joe Russo.
- The Action: The gunfights are crazy. It seems like every second of the film the squad is in a battle. The surroundings make the battles and firefights even more harrowing and exciting. Almost all fighting is close quarters combat. This is fighting in the streets, using whatever you have close to you for cover. Mosul feels like the real deal. A lot of people die, and you do not see the “heroic” deaths you are used to seeing in most action movies. Sometimes, it is wrong place, wrong time. We also have random stray bullets and friendly fire. War is definitely hell in Mosul. It is not pretty, but it sure is exciting.
- The Story: Character development is the only weakness of Mosul. There are a lot of unfamiliar faces to most people watching. The language spoken is Arabic. Most of the actors are from Iraqi. However, we have an American director and well known producers. The Rookie and the Major are the only two characters with any depth. At times, you might get confused, because everyone is wearing the same uniform and equipment, and it is hard to tell some of the actors apart. It is a case of unfamiliarity. It does not make the movie unwatchable, it just makes it harder to cheer for some characters to survive. This could be done on purpose. Maybe, it is not about the actors, but the real life SWAT officers who died in the line of duty? Perhaps, it is them we should remember, and we should also learn more about the real heroes of the Nineveh Swat.
Bonus Bullet Points…
- Star Rating: A solid 3.5 out of 5 stars.
- My Quote: “Mosul is gritty realistic action. Watch right now!”
- Netflix and Chill: Mosul is not a movie you watch for background noise. It is a movie you watch for exciting action.
- The Real Thing: Mosul is not to be confused with the documentary, Mosul. The documentary can be found on Amazon Prime, while the movie I just reviewed is coming very soon to Netflix. Confused yet?
