Scene of the Week: Sh-Boom
Road House is one of the quintessential action movies that everybody needs to see. A movie about a bar bringing in a bouncer to straighten up the place may seem like a silly idea, and it is but it works. It works because Patrick Swayze was so perfect as Dalton the cooler and the action is top notch. Any movie that has a guy getting his throat ripped out is ok in my book.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at another reason Road House works and that is Ben Gazzara as the villainous Ben Wesley. You might not think that Ben Gazzara is a match for Patrick Swayze, but the amount of power Wesley wields in the small town is immense. While having his minions take a monster truck to a car dealership, or burning down an auto parts store can show that, there is no scene shows the total power and lack of respect for anyone else then when Wesley is cruising down the road singing along to The Crew Cuts version of “Sh-Boom” with no regard to traffic laws or Dalton coming the other way. The man was powerful… Ya-da-da da-da-da da-da-da.
