Bullet Points: The Little Things
The Little Things will premiere at the movies and on HBO MAX on Friday, January 29th. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak, and I am hear to let you know if The Little Things is worth your time…
- The Plot: Two cops investigate a series of gruesome murders in Los Angeles. A simple enough plot. The Little Things stars Denzel Washington and Rami Malek as the cops, Jared Leto as the prime suspect, and it also features Chris Bauer, Terry Kinney and Michael Hyatt. The film is written and directed by John Lee Hancock.
- 1990: I was very pleased with the year The Little Things takes place. It is set in 1990. This means no internet, cell phones, find my phone app and other technological gadgets that make life easier. Denzel and Rami have to do real police work to solve the case. The first hour finds our leads searching and investigating for clues. I thought the two cops would butt heads. Surprisingly, they work very well with each other. There is no denying Denzel Washington is one of the greatest if not the greatest living actor. He commands the screen every single time he is in a film, and he never goes into lazy mode. It is a joy watching him act. Rami Malek holds his own as well. He has a lot of screen time, and he proves his Oscar win was no fluke.
- Leto: You either love or hate Jared Leto. Some people are turned off my his method acting. Jared is as creepy as creepy gets in The Little Things. His storyline doesn’t come into play until about an hour in, but once he shows up, it is hard to forget his performance.
- Twists and Turns: The Little Things is an edge of your seat thriller. You never know exactly what is going to happen next. A lot had theories after the trailer was released, but I think most will be left pleasantly surprised by the outcome. There is a “wow” moment, but I don’t think it is what you will be expecting.
- Final Thoughts: We don’t have a lot of big movies out right now. We are lucky we have the opportunity to watch The Little Things from our homes on HBO MAX. While The Little Things isn’t a game changer in the crime thriller genre. It is very entertaining, watchable and loaded with great performances and scenery. You can’t go wrong if you decide to check it out. 4 stars!
