Ryan Shoots First: WandaVision (S1 Ep4) “We Interrupt This Program”

Ok let’s do this… I get this show is fun and everything and the story really picked up last week but I need to get back to my new life of cruising Hedge Fund managers by investing in fledgling retail chains… Diamond hands babay!!!!

We start with a sort of cold open before the Marvel logo and it appears to be Geraldine or Monica coming back after the Avengers fixed the Snap. Cool little bit of insight into what it was like when half the world’s population just all of a sudden came back. Monica is in a hospital and is confused, her mother is no longer in the hospital she finds a doctor that explains her mother died during the years she was in Thanos Purgatory. 

After the Marvel opening we are at SWORD headquarters at what looks like the time everyone is blipping back according to the news cycles going on overhead. Monica can not get into the facility. We have also 100% confirmed this is the little girl from Captain Marvel that is the daughter of Carol’s friend Maria Rambeau. This was pretty much confirmed in reports but now we know for sure. She is the first to report back to the program. SWORD is dedicated to analyzing alien threats and tech. Monica’s mother founded the group and she was in charge before the Blip. Monica is being sent to help the FBI in a missing persons case upstate. She shows up in Westveiw to meet Agent Wu who you may remember from Ant Man. The missing person is a witness in witness protection. They show up and the Sheriffs tell them the village of Westview doesn’t exist. Wu says he cannot get into the town and Monica gets out a drone to fly into the town. She flies it through the force field and it disappears. Monica walks up and can see the energy field Wanda has created. Monica is then sucked into the town. 24 hours later and we get si=ome more MCU call outs as we see Darci from the Thor series called in to analyze the field. We see SWORD has the full base set up and keep sending in drones into the town. 

Darci discovers the radio waves being given off can be watched on a old TV, giving us the feeds Wanda is producing. Next they send in agents through the sewer system to see if they can get into the town. You know the Beekeeper from episode 2. Darci makes the note that Vision is 100% dead. The team slowly starts collecting info on how many people are in the town and collecting data on the missing people. Darci comes up with the idea to transmit to the radio to try and reach Wanda. We reach the point from last week when Wanda expelled Monica from the town. We go back into the Wanda reality and the TV goes back to 16:9 and we see Wanda tell Monica she is an outsider and she wants her to leave again confirming she is in control of everything. As Vision comes in to ask where Geraldine is we see Wanda turn around to see the corpse of Vision she is keeping alive in this world. As the troops descend upon Monica she informs them it’s all Wanda. 

Nice to get some broad views on the story this week. The pacing of this show has been great knowing when to be vague and when to feed us what we need to know. Going forward now with SWORD knowing Wanda is essentially the enemy it will be interesting to see how they proceed. This week certainly put to bed some theories and confirmed others. Hydra has nothing to do with what’s going on, no one is imprisoning Wanda this as many thought is her losing herself through grief and her powers. Vision is 100% dead, she’s just morbidly moving his body around. 

Observations

• Never really thought of the ramifications of half the earths population just showing back up where they left off. 
• Nice to have a timeline now as it appears this is set after Endgame. Was confident but couldn’t be sure so Vision is in fact dead as far as we know. 
• EXPOSITION DUMP EPISODE
• I’ll give them credit. There is a little bit of connecting the dots going on instead of strait exposition or flashbacks. 
• Eastside Westside turf war in Jersey!
• Man tough few weeks for Monica. 
• I love the TV effect of the force field and when the drones disappear it is like a TV turning off. 
• I get a kick out of the big dry erase board that looks like some youtubers rooms when analyzing the episodes. 
• It’s cool to see the story from the outside about all the things that have been going on in the town. 
• Cool how the beekeepers tether turned into a jump rope once it entered the town. 
• Wanda straight Weekend at Bernies-ing Vision.
