Scene of the Week: Shanghai Knights
When Jackie Chan’s Hong Kong movie career really started to take off, it was only natural for Chan to try and replicate that success in Hollywood. Numerous attempts were made over the years starting with 1980’s Battle Creek Brawl. But it wasn’t until 1998’s Rush Hour that Jackie Chan really struck Hollywood gold.
Audiences loved the odd couple/buddy cop dynamic between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker and the movie earned nearly a quarter of a billion dollars at the box office world wide.
Chan’s follow up to Rush Hour would see Jackie Chan team up with Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon. The action comedy set in the Old West was not as financially successful as Rush Hour, but it was successful enough to spawn its own sequel, Shanghai Knights.
Released on February 7, 2003, Shanghai Knights would find the unlikely duo of Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) and Roy O’Bannon (Owen Wilson) traveling to England to track down the man who killed Chon’s father.
