Bullet Points: Sentinelle
My Netflix journey across the globe continues with Sentinelle.
This time, I’m traveling to France to witness a story of revenge. There is concern as I start my viewing. Normally, I am able to screen these type of films in advance. I received word from Netflix that I would not be viewing Sentinelle early. I am going in with an open mind, so let’s see what I have got myself into.
- The Plot: Sentinelle stars Olga Kurylenko as Klara. She is a badass French soldier, who was transferred back home after a traumatic event that occurred in the Sand Box while fighting terrorists. Back at home all seems well, until another terrible event threatens to rip her family apart. Now, she is a one-woman vengeance machine out for justice. Sentinelle is written and directed by Julien Leclercq.
- Say What: Sentinelle decides to go the Death Wish route. Klara’s sister is in a coma, because some Russian might have raped her. This Russian is the son of a very important man. They both have some sort of diplomatic immunity. Klara does go back to the club where her sister was last seen and she gets into a bathroom brawl with some junior gangsters. The is our first opportunity to see Klara or her stunt double in action. The fight is decent but choppy. Later, she gets into a bathtub brawl. Once again, the fight is okay, but we have some weird slow motion sequences. The action should be the best part of Sentinelle, but it keeps frustrating me.
- Calling This One a Day: When I first learned about Sentinelle, I was very excited. My excitement kept dwindling as I continued to watch. I buy Olga Kurylenko as an action star. She is not the problem. The script is too weak for me to care. Sentinelle is very dull at times. That is it. I am calling this one. Sentinelle is a hot damn mess. It might help you sleep, but it probably isn’t the action movie you should watch this weekend. Watch Boss Level instead.
