Scene of the Week: Prince Barin vs. Flash Gordon

Timothy Dalton was born on March 21, 1946 in Colwyn Bay, Wales in the United Kingdom. Dalton, who has had a career spanning more than five decades now, will probably always best be known for his short stint as James Bond in 1987’s The Living Daylights and 1989’s Licence to Kill.

But my earliest memory of watching Timothy Dalton on the big screen was in 1980’s Flash Gordon with Dalton playing Prince Barin, the ruler of Mongo’s Arboria region and lover of Ming the Merciless’ daughter, Princess Aura.

This week’s Scene of the Week looks back at the rivalry between the Robin Hood-esque Prince Barin and the All-American Hero Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones, Fists of Iron), a rivalry that Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed) is allowing the two alpha males to settle for his amusement in his palace in the sky. More specifically with bullwhips on a tilting platform with retractable spikes in a fight… To the Death!
