Ryan Shoots First: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (S1 Ep6) “One World, One People”
Here we go! The finale is here and like Brad Pitt we all find out what’s in the box.
With the Flag Smashers in the GRC headquarters Sam is meeting up with Bucky who is approached by Sharon in disguise outside of the building. Karli see’s Sam fly over head and they start their plan. Sam comes flying in sporting his new costume and tells a hostage he IS Captain America. Sam is approached by GSP who is back for his revenge. Karli reaches out to Bucky to try to sway him to their side but he has been in her place before. Bucky gives chase on a bike while Sharon gasses one of the undercover goons. Sam leaves his fight to go after the helicopter taking hostages away. On the way he stops to save a NYPD helicopter that is taken out. Meanwhile Bucky gets in the fight as Karli sets an entire SWAT truck of hostages on fire to distract Bucky. As she’s walking away John Walker shows up with his Home Depot shield and Karli easily dismisses it. Sam manages to save the helicopter. Back at the fight Karli escapes Walker with the last bus of hostages but dumps the van off a ledge onto Bucky. This faces Walker with a choice to save people or go after Karli. He actually chooses to save the people but it doesn’t last long as Karli and co attack him. Sam manages to flu in though and saves the van.
GSP helps Karli and them escape but the trio are hot on their tail thanks to Sam’s suit upgrades. There is a whistle noise drawing Karli in but it turns out to be Sharon but Karli and it is revealed she is in fact the Power Broker. GSP tries to extort Sharon but she is shot by Karli as Sam comes up. Karli and Sam fight but Sam refuses to fight her. Karli eventually gets a gun on Sam but before she can pull the trigger Sharon shoots her. Sam holds Karli as she dies. Sam flies in and gets into a debate with the GRC with their use of labels and encourages them to speed up the refugee saving process. Sam delivers a rousing speech that is picked up by the news he mentions every time he picks up that shield he knows people will hate him but he does anyway, no serum, no blonde hair or blue eyes. We cut to Isiah watching the news and he is stirred by Sam’s words. As the Flag Smasher prisoners are being taken away they are blown up by a car bomb. We then see Zemo’s butler in the seat of the car as Zemo watches from prison. We cut to Julia Louis-Dreyfus who is checking out Walker’s new outfit that is similar to the US Agent comic getup, she then calls him by that same name.
Bucky finally visits his old friend to finally cross his name of his list and tell him about his son and make amends. He also leaves a gift for his therapist that is the book with all the names crossed out and a card saying thanks. Sam shows up at Isiahs and Isiah tells him he is special and gives him his approval. Sam tells Isiah he may die but they built this country and he won’t let them down, including Isiah, who says he almost bought that. Sam takes Isiah to the Captain America exhibit where there is a statue of him. Sam tells him they will never forget and Isiah hugs him in tears. We close on a community cookout where Bucky is the life of the party and show ends with the title Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Nice touch. As a post credit scene Sharon is restored and allowed back into the US. She is offered a full pardon and her job back but I assume she is still the Power Broker. Outside the steps she makes a call and says to get ready… she’s broke bad.
Another excellent show, very different from Wanda Vision but the show in the last 3 or so episodes really caught on to something. The battles of Sam overcoming his reservations both living in Caps shadow and being a Black man in this world along with Bucky overcoming his trauma and past in a productive healthy way speaks to all of us. Major props to Marvel for both shows tackling real issues and speaking to audiences in a new way. Also really some great character development for people we have known for years and wanted to see more. Maybe that’s the secret: have people as side characters with mediocre at best development than lazer focus on them for TV shows. Who knew!
Bring on The Bad Batch!!!
Observations
- Bucky got that swag walking passed that barricade.
- I love Bucky’s now an advocate for therapy.
- Hell Yea that suit is true to the comics.
- Ha “I don’t fly man that’s your thing”
- Sam making sure someone in the helicopter has flight training before taking out the pilot is why he is the new Cap, I love that added detail.
- Nice use of the shield and his wings to form a barrier.
- She shut that shield down like it was made by Hasbro.
- Sams takedown of the helicopter was sweet.
- The “That’s Black Falcon, no That’s Captain America” moment was a little heavy handed but I am totally here for it.
- I love that the 2 people WITH the Super Soldier serum leave the guy who doesn’t have it alone.
- Sam is kinda like the best of Cap and Iron Man brought together.
- Told ya Sharon was the Power Broker.
- I guess they can explain it away with this new Serum but I can’t figure just how impervious to things the super soldiers are.
- Bucky’s face is why he was proud Sam was chosen by Steve and not him.
- I like the idea of a hero who actually holds the governments accountable.
- Bucky ultimate white friend.
- This show has made Bucky one of my favorites in the MCU and I really was just indifferent on him before as he was kinda abandoned after Civil War.
- Marvel shows are now 2/2 on making me cry.
- Bucky is literally the white guy at the barbecue.
