Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S1 Ep7) “Battle Scars”
This week while on another side mission the Batch uncover an unexpected threat. The episode starts with the crew being chased retrieving some lizard for Cid. When they arrive back at her place they are unhappy with their pay and learn Omega and Wrecker are running up her tab around the markets. What is interesting is the hooded figure lingering in the shadows. Later we see some patrons walk up to this hooded figure and it ends in a shootout. Cid is lecturing the Batch on needing a big score when they are drawn to the sound and discover it is Rex. It turns out Trace and Rafa were talking to Rex last week. Rex asks about Omega and meets her for the first time and he tells her he’s never met a clone like her. Just then Wrecker complains of his headaches and Rex is instantly suspicious. Tech tells him they have not removed their chips yet and Rex tells them they are all ticking time bombs with their chips still intact. Rex implores them to get the chips removed and Rex tells them he will be in touch.
We cut to the Batch going to Bracca to meet Rex to get their chips removed. They need to be sneaky as the scrapper guild runs the planet and they are trying to get in to a republic cruiser to access the medical equipment needed to take out the chips. Hunter seems weary of the water and tells Tech to stay above the water line. Wrecker falls trying to cross a weak cable and ends up falling near the surface of the water where a creature grabs him with its tentacles and almost pulls him down. The team finds the med bay and are able to get it up and running. Wrecker is fighting off the effects and before Tech can put him down for the procedure the chip takes over ansd he turns on his brothers calling them traitors. They draw him away from the med bay before he destroys the equipment but Wrecker is making quick work of them when Omega fires a shot near him. This causes Wrecker to chase Omega through the ship. Omega is unable to pull the trigger and before Wrecker can finish off Omega with the line “Good soldiers follow orders” Rex is able to stun him. Wrecker undergoes the procedure but doesn’t wake up, Omega refuses to leave his side until he wakes up. We see a shot of Omega resting her head on Wrecker and Wreckers hand slowly places it on her head and he apologizes for his behavior. The team one by one goes through the procedure as Rex and Hunter talk about the war Rex is still in the fight and Hunter tells him he is dedicated to Omega but beyond that he is still figuring out where they stand. Hunter tells Rex as he leaves if he is ever in a bind he knows how to reach them. As Rex is leaving the scrapper guild discovers them and radios to notify “The Outlier”.
Was glad to see Rex this week as we solve one mystery and ask another one with this “Outlier” character the scrapper thugs were talking to. I don’t know what Lucasfilm animation has down the pike but I hope they keep making Star Wars content because this show is absolutely beautiful. The animation is so strong. Keep it coming.
