Bullet Points: Stalker
It is impossible for me to review every new release. I have to make decisions based on which films I believe my reading audience will want to know about. Sometimes I watch a movie for review consideration and I like it, but I do not have the time to write a review. I decided today to review a movie you might not know about. A film that probably needs all the reviews it can get it order to attract some attention to it. Let us take a look at Tyler Savage’s Stalker. Remember what Single White Female did for roommates? Well, Stalker does about the same thing for ride-share drivers. Who wants to a share a Lyft?
- What Is Going On?: Andy (Vincent Van Horn) is fresh off a breakup with his girlfriend and decides to move from Austin to Los Angeles for a new beginning. He quickly meets Sam (Christine Ko) and they hit it off almost immediately. That same night, the new couple catch a ride home with a ride-share driver, Roger (Michael Lee Joplin). Andy’s world quickly begins to spin out of control as Roger starts to terrorize / stalk Andy. I guess the old saying is true: Never accept a ride from a stranger.
- The Creep Factor: Stalker has a ‘90s thriller vibe even with all the cellphone usage. If you liked The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female, Unlawful Entry, Pacific Heights or Sleeping With the Enemy then Stalker might be a movie for you. Roger puts the C in creep. Every scene he is in will make you feel uneasy. Stalker’s budget appears small, but it looks like they got every penny out of it. Stalker is not action packed throughout, but it does enough to keep you fully engaged and your blood pressure might be through the roof after your viewing.
- Should You Watch?: Stalker is far from perfect, but I do believe if you like psychological thrillers with a twist, you should think about giving it a rental. The final twist left me speechless. Stalker will be available On Demand and Streaming on June 18, 2021 from Vertical Entertainment.
