Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S1 Ep9) “Bounty Lost”
After the reveal of Cad Bane last week and his abduction of Omega we see the Batch turn the tables as they are now the ones on the hunt.
This week opens with the Batch being chased by a burnt faced Crosshair. Hunter is reluctant to jump to hyperspace without Omega but they are left with no choice. Meanwhile on Banes ship Omega wakes up and meets Todo 360. Bane reports to the Prime Minister of Kamino he has Omega and they will meet at the rendezvous point. The Prime Minister elects to send Taun We since she lacks the emotional connection. The Prime Minister then tells them to terminate Omega after they extract the needed material. Back on the Marauder Tech finds out Omega is like Boba, an altered clone of Jango’s raw genetic material. On Bane’s ship Omega is trying to convince Todo to let her help him fix his leg, he falls for it and Omaga actually helps repair him. Omega does knock him out though after an attempt to escape.
As they reach the planet which looks a lot like Bespin, Bane is calling for Todo but he does not respond. This causes Bane to investigate but not before Omega manages to find her communicator. Back on the Marauder they receive a transmission from Omega but they are unable to track her location. Bane manages to get Omega back and crush her communicator but not before another ship shows up on the planet. Bane investigates and finds Taun We gunned down. It is Fennec looking to poach the bounty. She is offering the case for the girl but Todo is able to sneak up on her and get the case. A shootout ensues, resulting in all the credits being blown out the window. In the shootout Omega is able to get away and discovers a bunch of tanks of what appears to be clones. She manages to find a console and is able to get a message out to the Batch. Fennec tells her they won’t get there in time and tells her what the Prime Minister has planned for her, she manages to get away momentarily before Bane shows back up again.
As Fennec and Bane fight, Omega manages to find an escape pod and get away. The pod is caught by the Batch and she is safely returned. Omega begins to get emotional and wants to know why she is so wanted. Hunter tells her she is valuable to the Kaminoians even more than they are. We then see Fennec report back to Nala Se who hired her to stop Bane from getting Omega. As the episode ends we see Hunter and Omega having a heart to heart, her explaining they will never stop sending people after her and Hunter telling her they will never stop protecting her.
Another strong episode with the fight between Fennec and Bane along with the revelation that Omega is essentially Boba Fett’s Sister. It will be interesting if the Batch decides to go on the offensive at any time to protect Omega.
Observations
- Todo 360 using his detached leg as a crutch is too cute.
- Also Bane looks good in the advanced animation of this show.
- Taun We is back who is the Kaminoian who talks to Obi Wan in Episode 2.
- This is how you can be a good scoundrel. At least Omega did fix him before knocking him out.
- Shot of the week goes to this standoff with the smoke and bright overcast light coming through.
- Is the Batch secretly a Snoke Origin story?
- First episode where we’ve seen the batch essentially be side characters.
- Eventually this all has to come to ahead with the Kaminoians.
- Will we see Boba and Omega ever meet?
