Bullet Points: Fear Street: Part Three – 1666
The Fear Street Trilogy has been scaring the socks off viewers since it premiered exclusively on Netflix a few weeks ago. The final installment of the trilogy, Fear Street: Part Three – 1666 has just made its way to Netflix. Let’s find out if you should instantly add it to your queue or not…
- The Plot: 1666 takes you back to where it all begins: The origin story of Sarah Fier, the witch whose curse has haunted the citizens of Shadyside for centuries. The cast consists of actors you have seen in the two previous films, but they are playing different roles in the first half of the film. For example: Kiana Madeira’s Deena, the heroine of 1994, plays Sarah Fier. You see the events of 1666 through Deena / Sarah’s eyes. Once again, this installment of Fear Street is directed by Leigh Janiak.
- 1666: Just like in 1978, Part Three does not have the explosive beginning like Part One did. The first half of the film is all about the hysteria surrounding witches. The music sounds like Riverdance or something you would hear on an episode of Outlander. All of the actors speak in forced sounding Irish accents. The story is important to the conclusion of the series, but I kept hoping the film would flash to the events from 1994. Fortunately, it does.
- 1994: Part Three picks up steam when it flashes to the continuing story of our characters from 1994. The frantic pace is still missing. The soundtrack tries a bit too hard. We do not have a lot of memorable gore moments. However, I did enjoy watching the characters conclude their story. It might sound like I did not enjoy 1666, but in all honesty, I think I enjoyed it as much as I could.
- Final Verdict: The Fear Street Trilogy is not a game changer like I thought it had the chance to be. While 1994 is one of the best slasher films I have seen in recent memory, 1666 disappointed me some like 1978 did. The trilogy is however a solid series of slasher movies. The biggest takeaway is I want to see more R.L. Stine films adapted to the screen.
