Bullet Points: Midnight in the Switchgrass
Megan Fox and Bruce Willis in the same film? Sign me up!!
- The Plot: Midnight in the Switchgrass reminds me of The Little Things. Instead of Denzel Washington and Rami Malek hunting down a possible serial killer in Jared Leto; we have Megan Fox and Emile Hirsch teaming up to try and stop a sadistic killer in Lukas Haas. Add in Bruce Willis as Megan’s partner, and you have the potential for something special. Midnight in the Switchgrass is directed by Randall Emmett. You might not me familiar with the name, but I can almost guarantee you have seen at least one action movie he has produced. For the record, this is Emmett’s directorial debut.
- Pillows: I know the reason you clicked on my review: How lazy is Bruce Willis in Midnight in the Switchgrass? Bruce Willis is known for sleepwalking through DTV. It is no different with this film. He sits more than he stands. When he is supposed to be trying to save his partner, he does not run, he walks at a very slow pace. His screen time is more cameo than anything else. He is so lazy, I do not think he used a stunt or head double. His role is the definition of easy money. If 5 pillows is the most lazy, Bruce easily gets 4 out of 5 pillows. If you are watching Midnight in the Switchgrass for Bruce, you are watching for all the wrong reasons.
- The Fox: Megan Fox is having a busy 2021. First Till Death and now Midnight in the Switchgrass. I am glad to see Megan back on the screen. It could be her romantic relationship with Machine Gun Kelly that brings you to this film. I am guessing they met while filming their two scenes together. Again, do not watch Midnight in the Switchgrass if you want to see the fire and passion between Megan and MGK. There is none. MGK’s role is smaller than Bruce’s. At least Megan Fox has one of the main roles. She is almost believable as an FBI Agent. Almost believable is not necessarily a bad thing. I do hope to see Megan in more movies.
- Why Should You Watch: The real reason to watch is the outstanding performance by Emile Hirsch and the creepiness of Lukas Haas. Hirsch is on fire as the determined Florida cop hell bent on solving a series of grizzly murders and Haas pushes his creep meter to a 10. Midnight in the Switchgrass is a solid psychological thriller. It does not reinvent anything, but it tells an interesting story. My action fanatics might be disappointed due to the lack of action scenes. It is way more chase than delivery. However, the film is watchable, and it earns a passing grade from me.
- Grade: B-
Look for Midnight in the Switchgrass in Select Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 23rd from Lionsgate.
Bonus Bullet Points…
- Stallone: Not Sly, but his daughter, Sistine Rose Stallone does have a small part.
- My IMDb Prediction: Something I want to try to do is guess where the IMDb score will eventually be. IMDb is not rocket science, but it does give you an idea how the masses feel about a film. You will have some people give this movie a low score just because of Bruce or possibly even Megan. Perhaps, they will rate it before even watching. With all these factors, I think the score will settle in at around a 5.2 out of 10. This is actually high for a recent Bruce Willis film seeing that Cosmic Sin is currently a 2.4, Breach is a 3 and Survive the Night is a 4.1. Am I aiming too high? What is your guess? Let me know!!
