Scene of the Week: Navy Seals – Rescue Mission
Boy, do I miss 1990. The action movies, the professional wresting, the incredible sweaters. Just so much there that I took for granted. Navy Seals is also one of the things I feel I’ve taken for granted because watching it now is just so satisfying. The wonderful comradery between all of the men in the film, actually seeing Americans being the good guys, for once, and the fact that I get to see Michael Biehn and Charlie Sheen smoke some terries is just good fun for me.
One of my earliest cinema memories is seeing Navy Seals in my local theater and having to stand in the back because it was standing room only. You can’t make that up. I would have believed that this film was a massive blockbuster success because that’s exactly what it was in my little part of the world. Sadly, it wasn’t as successful as random Southern Ohio movie theater would lead me to believe and we never got to follow the other missions of the SEAL team. Fortunately, we did get this magical movie and I’m now thankful for it every single day.
