Bullet Points: Crime Story (2021)
Old Man Action is a frequently covered action sub-genre here at Bulletproof Action. The latest O.M.A. entry is 2021’s Crime Story starring Richard Dreyfuss and Mira Sorvino.
Look for Crime Story on Friday the 13th of August when it is released everywhere movies can be rented and in select theaters from Saban Films and Paramount.
- The Plot: Ben Myers (Richard Dreyfuss, Daughter of the Wolf) is a former mob enforcer dying from cancer that goes into revenge mode when all of his valuables and cash are stolen from his home. Crime Story also stars Mira Sorvino (The Replacement Killers) and Pruitt Taylor Vince (Constantine). Crime Story is written and directed by Adam Lipsius.
- Richard Dreyfuss: I will give credit to Richard Dreyfuss. His role is a legit starring one and not an extended cameo. Dreyfuss also does the voiceover narration in the movie, so if you are a fan of Richard’s voice, you should be in for a treat. I also like how Dreyfuss is not a stereotypical action hero. Not only is he old, but he is out of shape as well. I doubt he did any of his physical stunt work, but what do you expect from a 75+ year-old man?
- More Plot: Mira Sorvino is Dreyfuss’ cop daughter. She also works for a politician who used Richard’s services in the past. The plot is too complex for the story it is trying to tell. The movie works best with Dreyfuss’ scenes of revenge. I did want to throw my hands up with the ending. I am not sure what kind of movie the director was trying to make.
- The Verdict: Crime Story qualifies for Old Man Action, but I will probably forget most of it very soon. It was nice seeing Mia Sorvino, but she honestly does not bring a lot to her role. The scene stealer is Pruitt Taylor Vince who plays Tommy. Pruitt out acts the Academy Award winners in this one. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but in this case you can judge a movie by its poster, because the poster for Crime Story is super-generic and so is the overall film.
