Ryan Shoots First: The Bad Batch (S1 Ep16) “Kamino Lost”
With the Batch and Crosshair trying to escape a sinking, exploding city let’s jump into the finale of Season 1 of The Bad Batch.
We begin with Admiral Rampart once again ordering the bombardment of Kamino. This time though a clone does seem to show some emotion in the report that the city has been destroyed. Inside the batch and Crosshair are just trying to get to a safe spot. They are split up after a door closes leaving Omega and Crosshair separated and Crosshair pinned under a beam. AZ is there as well though and through Omegas quick with they are able to free Crosshair. That is only one obstacle clear however as the room is filling up with water. She was able to communicate with Hunter on the other side of the door and Wrecker is trying to pry the door open. They succeed and are reunited with Crosshair and Omega. Crosshair isn’t sure about the plan and questions Hunters leadership abilities and even remarks how Omega is calling the shots when the team is in their old barracks. Omega notices they are now close to the tunnel they used to get in and the Marauder should be safe.
In the tunnels hurdle after hurdle presents itself in both the quickly cracking glass and a giant sea creature that is destroying the tunnel now that the power is out and their is no protection. AZ manages to go ahead and reroute the power momentarily. Just long enough to give the sea creature a shock and cause it to leave. Back in the lab Hunter and Crosshair are filled in on the revelation from last week that Omega is actually older than them and watched them develop. They come up with a clever plan to use the test tubes they were grown in to float to the surface. The only problem is debri is still sinking and they will have no way to maneuver. AZ plans to guide the tubes but his power cells are quickly failing. The plan largely works but Omega’s pod is caught by debris and is sinking. AZ sacrifices himself with his last energy left to get Omega clear of the debris and towards the surface. Omega, not wanting to leave the droid behind, opens her pod and swims to rescue AZ. Up above Crosshair pulls out a sniper rifle and shoots a tow cable onto AZ pulling it and Omega above water. With everyone safe Hunter makes one final plea to Crosshair to join them and that they are brothers. Crosshair refuses and tells them the Empire will control everything and he wants to be a part of it. They leave him to wait for an Imperial Scouting party and leave the system.
As the episode closes we are on an imperial facility and Nala Se is approached by a doctor wearing a similar outfit to the doctor in The Mandalorian who wanted Grogu. She tells her they have big plans for her research and the episode and season ends.
Really looking forward to season 2, I would love to see the Batch go on the offensive and either begin launching strikes on the empire or grouping up with the early rebel cells and possibly Rex and his group. I like the way they left things with Crosshair. Clearly this isn’t the last we will see him and I like the idea that he didn’t abandon his worldview and ideology just because this experience. Looks like they are laying some seeds for the Emperors cloning program as well. We have a little bit of a lull now as we don’t have any Star Wars content till Book of Boba comes out in the winter. I’ll go back into cryogenic stasis till I’m needed again to give galactic takes.
Observations
- Man this is really dire
- Ok I’m glad they touched on how the clones feel cause they were way too cool with blowing up their home last week
- Omega is just wicked smart
- Who had Tech giving the most sound advice for our age in the series?
- Omega is always able to get through to people
- I love this plan it’s very clever but was it wise to put Omega in her own?
- Something about a droid sacrifice hits hard
- How did Crosshair get a gun??
- I like how it’s not that easy for crosshair to just give up his ideology. He’s obviously conflicted but he’s not ready to turn away yet. He’s a really awesome conflicted charachter.
- If that insignia looks familiar the doctor who was experimenting on the child had the same logo. Take that info and run with it. Just go crazy.
