Scene of the Week: Kingdom of Heaven – Forest Ambush
There are so many movies out there with theatrical versions that stink when compared to their “director’s cuts” that’s it’s hard to narrow it down for these purposes. Apocalypse Now, Donnie Darko, and The Abyss all jump out at me but if we’re talking about movies that change it drastically then I’m looking at flicks like Daredevil, Alien 3, and Kingdom of Heaven as ones that have remarkable changes, in my opinion. I can remember seeing Kingdom of Heaven for the first time and not understanding how this movie didn’t blow up. The action was intense and Ridley Scott knocked it out of the park when it came to the sheer scale of the battles. Then I was told that the copy I had seen was the Director’s Cut of the film and not the theatrical version. Suffice it to say, I later watched the version sent to theaters and got my answer; it was a turd.
This scene linked below, however, is not a turd. It’s one of the early scenes in the Director’s Cut that will let you know you’ve made a wise decision. A point in the film where you will no longer question finishing it. Kingdom of Heaven is a film that I’ve enjoyed going back to and one that you should definitely watch if you’ve never experienced it.
