Scene of the Week: The Wrecking Crew
Haunted cars are not an uncommon storyline in movies, but it is hard to debate that 1983’s Christine is not the most famous. Based on a novel of the same name by Stephen King and being directed by John Carpenter it definitely has some major horror backbones. Above all, Christine features one evil looking car with an equally evil name. Is there a better car than the 1958 Plymouth Fury to be a possessed car? What is really scary about Christine is what the car Christine does to her new owner, Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) as we watch his transformation throughout the movie and what it does to the people in his life.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at Buddy Repperton and his crew looking to seek some revenge on Arnie for getting him expelled and what better way to get revenge on Arnie than by destroying Christine. It may be tough for classic car lovers to watch as the entire Fury is destroyed, but don’t worry, no bad deed goes unpunished. Shout out to Little Richard for his perfectly fitting “Keep-A-Knockin’”.
I always loved this seen as a teen. Always thought it looked like fun to get to smash up a nice car like that.
