Bullet Points: Never Back Down: Revolt
In this edition of “Sequels in Name Only” comes Never Back Down: Revolt, the fourth film in the series. Look for it now on Digital, Blu-ray and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
- The Plot: A novice fighter (Olivia Popica) finds herself in over her head when she is kidnapped and forced to fight in an underground fighting syndicate. Will she rise up and never back down? Never Back Down: Revolt also stars former UFC Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, Nitu Chandra Srivasttava, Brooke Johnson, Diana Hoyos and James Faulkner. Audrey Arkins is the writer and Kellie Madison directs. For my action fanatics it should be noted Tim Man (Ninja: Shadow of a Tear) does the fight choreography.
- What Is This, Amateur Hour?: Never Back Down: Revolt is a frustrating watch. While Michael Bisping (Triple Threat) is menacing as the main baddie, our fighters simply are not actual fighters and it shows. The fights are dull and in slow motion. I can only imagine how awful the fights would have been if Tim Man did not do the choreography. Revolt is missing star power. Perhaps, Amy Johnston or Ellen Hollman should have been cast in the lead. I wonder how many actresses passed on the film?
- Wasted Potential: What could have been. That is the overall theme of Never Back Down: Revolt. While the baddies are meaner than snakes, there is no energy from the heroes. It makes the viewer not care and lose interest. I have pretty much already checked out from this review.
- Final Thoughts: The Blu-ray does look good for the budget. It also comes with a Movies Anywhere digital code. Be warned though, the film has yet to show up in my Prime Video or Apple TV library. Perhaps, someone or something is staging a REVOLT?
- Grade: C-
