Ryan Shoots First: Hawkeye (S1 Ep4) “Partners, Am I Right?”
Following last week’s stellar episode of Hawkeye lets see if they can keep the momentum going or as the Rogers musical hit song says “I can do this all day”.
First let me state this show just has its hooks in me, it’s full of heart and wit and is just a fun break from the “multiverse” MCU heavy stuff as of late. The way it can transition between lighthearted fun with Kate and Clint to the dark past of Clint and his coping with the loss of Nat. It’s just hitting all the right notes for me and while I’m sure it is not what some are looking for in their MCU content I am really enjoying it. This week for me was highlighted by a scene of Clint and Kate having a Ugly Christmas Sweater movie marathon that turns into a whiteboard bad guy strategy session. But it’s not all “scene of the week” heart as Clint gets pretty deep into the mystery of what is going on with Kate’s new family. Complete with an awesome rooftop Fatal 4 Way fight and the anticipated return of a MCU character. One that if you looked at the IMDB cast list was spoiled but if not I will save the surprise for you because it’s a good one.
The show has really kicked into a new gear after this episode as now Hawkeye himself isn’t just casually on the outside of Kate’s mess but the two are now intertwined in a mess and will need to rely on each other to get out. I know I have made some comparisons to Die Hard in recent weeks and this week kinda felt like that again. Clint is the grizzled guy in the wrong place at the wrong time and he just can’t seem to get clear of this mess to enjoy the holidays with his family. While this week’s episode didn’t have a giant awesome car chase like last weeks highlight it had some great character moments, and awesome reveal and set the stage for where the remainder of the series will go. And I cannot wait to see now that the stakes have really been raised and the kid gloves will need to come off for Kate to take that next step into herodom.
Observations
- Well the suspense from last week went up in smoke real quick
- Clint met Kate’s folks for 2 seconds and was like “Yea these people are shady”
- The actor that plays Jack is a good villain.
- Just as Kate was starting to like Jack
- The Ugly Christmas Sweater Strategy Party is perfect for this show.
- This show is just hitting the notes for me. I love it.
- This is the most Larping has ever mattered to a plot before in any show. I include Role Models in that.
- If who I think is under that hood…
- HAHA, Kate getting stuck on the zip line is perfect.
- Kate looking like Nate as she fell was a perfect call back
- YES Its Yelana!!
- I knew she was going to be in the show but it was still awesome.
- I knew this encounter was going to happen and I knew I would feel like screaming at the TV “JUST TALK IT OUT YOU BOTH LOVED NAT!”
- I’m sure they will eventually.
