Ryan Shoots First: The Book of Boba Fett (S1 Ep2) “The Tribes of Tattooine”
Week 2 of The Book of Boba Fett is here and this week’s episode continues a mix of his past and the current. This week’s episode felt like it had a little more direction than last weeks as we didn’t jump back and forth nearly as much and mainly stuck to the first quarter of the episode being in the present and the rest set at the Tusken Raider camp. Both parts really shined, Boba had even more swagger this week as he tracked down the assassins who attacked him and Fennec last week. The payoff gives us a pretty cool reveal and sets some dangerous stakes for the rest of the season in regards to the current timeline. No one said breaking the glass ceiling from Bounty Hunter to Underground Crime Lord would be easy. Systemic issues keeping the man down!
Once we go back to the past at the Tusken camp though the show really settles in and is excellent. Boba ingraining himself into the culture of the Sand People gives us a pretty cool look at how this tribe in particular lives and governs. These are people we have known about for decades and are some of the first characters we are introduced to in A New Hope so it is cool to see them fleshed out more in such a satisfying way. The one warrior Tusken in particular is really cool and I hope to see more of him, maybe meeting back up with current timeline Boba down the road. There is a lot more action in this episode as Boba leads the Tuskens on a dangerous mission and pretty much brings them into the industrial revolution.
I had hoped maybe we would see Boba not spend the entire season on Tatooine but it’s looking more and more like this season in particular will take place entirely there. It would be hard for him to manage the crime underworld if he is jet setting all around the galaxy. I suppose there are ways the show could get around it but with so little on his side I can’t imagine him trusting anyone enough with running his kingdom while it’s in such a delicate state. I mean that’s what mercenaries and bounty hunters are for right? So you don’t have to leave the comfort of your throne. It was never a question if I was going to love this show or not. I mean it’s freaking Boba Fett but this week’s episode was great and laid some groundwork to give us a real idea where the season is heading and what we can expect going forward.
