Ryan Shoots First: The Book of Boba Fett (S1 Ep7) “In the Name of Honor”
It is the finale of the first season of The Book of Boba Fett and while it wasn’t huge on big surprises it was very big on action. The episode starts quiet as the team rallies in the ruins of the Sanctuary club as they prepare for the incoming onslaught from the Syndicate. It doesn’t take long for things to go sour as Cad Bane informs Boba and Mando that the people of Freetown won’t be coming as he dispatched of Cobb Vanth last week. As across Mos Espa the plan is sprung into action each group is slowly overwhelmed and forced to drop back to their comrades. I will say I think my biggest issue with the show is the direction of Robert Rodríguez. I can’t quite put my finger on it but something about the looks and feel of his episodes is different from the ones directed by others that I felt were much stronger.
The biggest complaint over the last few weeks is how little Boba himself has been in the episodes and that did not seem to be a problem this week. He had some great moments but also some satisfying payoffs to his quest throughout the season to change his status and become more than just a hired gun. Cad Bane specifically represents Boba’s past life, Cad helped raise Boba after Jango’s death and trained him up to be an elite hunter, maybe he didn’t have the best of intentions for doing it but nonetheless he represents everything Boba is trying to rise above. That with the found tribe of the Tuskens he found earlier in the season and his new tribe he has spent the season building all plays into the person Boba has become by the time of the finale.
The Mando 2.5 aspect of the show also gets a conclusion and launching point for Mando Season 3 next year. It’s a bold choice and I can see it will be an interesting talking point over the next year as we wait for the start of the next season. Shocker, right Star Wars fans divided on the direction of the franchise? Grogu has made his choice that Luke presented to him last week and now it will be seen how that choice will play out over the rest of whatever Mando and Grogu have going on next. Maybe they’ll try to revive the world of Mandalore, maybe theyll settle down and make a juice bar on the beach. Maybe Mando will go hunt down a Mythosaur, who knows a lot of place they could go but we will have to wait to see.
While the season may have had a weird feel and some starts and stops with different storylines I did enjoy it, as I mentioned last week it may have been better to instead have all these different named shows that interconnect to just name the show something generic and some seasons focus on some people more than others. I think that’s how I look at the whole TV-verse side of Star Wars, it helps with the jumping around. I really hope we get a season 2 that can maybe focus on just Boba more and maybe let him get off world a bit now that Tattoine is safe and locked down. I suppose we shall see till then… We wait for Obi-Wan!!
