Ryan Shoots First: Moon Knight (S1 Ep3) “The Friendly Type”
As we’ve reached the halfway mark of Moon Knight things are definitely picking up as this week saw a few big developments as well as expansion to the world the show introduces. This week’s episode introduces a new wrinkle to the series as we see the show from the eyes of Marc, with Steven now stuck viewing from the sidelines only being able to plead for his release.
Oscar Isaac again is deep in his bag for this series and while many of the transitions from Marc to Steven are behind some sore of camera effect or a cut there is one scene in this week’s episode where he transitions in one single frame and it is so impressive the ways he not only delivers the lines for each persona but the body language and way he carries himself is so different. One tense and strong ready at a moment’s notice to unleash pain also carrying the scars and guilt of his life. The other weak and unsure never knowing who he was even before he discovered he had two personas. The flip this week of both needing each other to get where they need to go is a dynamic I’m sure we all saw coming but it’s nice to see it starting to happen. With only 6 episodes in this limited series I like seeing this happen now and not closer to the finale. The idea of seeing the two sides finally reconcile with each other to save the day has some fun potential.
Focusing more on Marc this week allowed us to dive deeper into his relationship with Layla. Who oddly enough seems to latch onto this whole Dual personalities thing pretty quickly. We don’t get the full story but Marc is keeping a deep dark secret from her that haunts him and could destroy whatever is left of the relationship they have. We also get some more view of the world of the Egyptian Gods in the MCU. How they operate and structure, again always interesting seeing a new wrinkle added to the MCU like Wakanda, or the realm in Shang Chi. In my Observations I noted the show is like a combination of Indiana Jones/ The Mummy, and Batman which if that doesn’t sell you I don’t know what will.
Observations
- I must say I appreciate seeing how counterfeit IDs are made. We always just see them in movies.
- Haha the punch while licking shot to music was really cool
- The turns have tables now haven’t they Marc!
- Things are escalating quickly
- Aww so a Eternals situation we got here. Between them and the Watcher we got a lot of people just doing nothing
- This Indiana Jones/ Batman/ Mummy mash up is so fun.
- “Take the body Marc take the body” haha
- I say this every week but Oscar Isaac deserves an Emmy for this show.
