Ryan Shoots First: Moon Knight (S1 Ep6) “Gods and Monsters”
After last week’s loaded episode, it’s finale time! While it seemed that there was a lot to wrap up in this finale some was answered while others seemed to be left as cliff hangers for a possible future. All in all the episode itself was a typical MCU finale fair that we’ve seen. The final episode is action and fights but they still managed to sprinkle in some intrigue and a tease for where Moon Knight as a character is heading.
We’re not sure where we may see him next whether in a second season or elsewhere in the MCU but I hope to see more of Oscar Isaac in the role. The biggest thing is the show’s willingness to be removed from the rest of the MCU. We really have no idea at what time it takes place, if it’s pre or post snap and who may be around hero wise. I’m going to assume it is a post snap world but little really ties the show to the canon which is refreshing in some ways. Not bogged down by the need for constant theories and crossovers it was allowed to focus mainly on the dynamic between Marc and Stephen all season. I also enjoy the aspect that as soon as the two get their stuff together and get on the same page a giant wrench is thrown into their plans. I won’t spoil it for you here but comic fans will have a pretty good idea what it is.
It’s been interesting to judge reactions on this new effort of limited series to tackle new origin stories or just smaller stories. The movie going audience has grown so accustomed now to giant MCU spectacles the idea of a simple origin story with maybe a smaller level threat may seem lackluster. It seems also with this new crop of heroes being lesser known names Marvel has opted for the limited series route which lowers some of those expectations but more than that gives us more time to really get to know these characters and their motivations to become heroes. I like the medium and as I watched the 6 episodes I can only imagine a trimmed down version of this story told in 2 hours on the big screen would have left audiences feeling dissatisfied. I think this plan better serves the likes of Moon Knight, Kate Bishop, She Hulk and Ms Marvel. Build them up here so when they make their big screen debuts it will feel like a big deal.
But we don’t need to wait long to see what the next step in the MCU will be as Doctor Strange comes out Friday and you can bet your ancient Egyptian God statue I’ll be there to check it out.
Observations
- Good thing he left the scarim as a symbolic gesture.
- Only 1 good cop. That’s a lot of bad apples.
- I saw a funny video of how the pyramids are actually surrounded by like a town but it never looks good on screen so they make it look like it’s in the middle of a desert.
- Puny gods
- Marc telling Stephen he was the only super power he ever had was a sweet moment.
- Hahaha “Hippo!!”
- Oh man he’s going to end the season by saying “later gators” isn’t he.
- Very cool Layla
- The contrast of Stephens acrobatic style Marc’s brutality is fun. Like Batman and Nightwing in one!
- Enter personality number 3
- Back here again!
