Scene of the Week: “Grab the Cat”
Lethal Weapon 3 might sometimes get overlooked in the Lethal Weapon franchise. As an example, it is the only movie on this website that didn’t have a Scene of the Week until this post. I can understand, because as good as Riggs and Murtaugh are in Lethal Weapon 3, it has the weakest villain of the series. Stuart Wilson as Jack Travis is forgettable and the former cop as bad guy has been seen before. That doesn’t mean you should skip Lethal Weapon 3 as it has some of the biggest action scenes, from the explosive beginning and ending scenes to an entire housing development aflame, there are some serious action set pieces.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at the explosive opening that causes Riggs and Murtuagh to get demoted to uniform duty after they failed to diffuse a bomb in an office building… but they did rescue the cat. The actual building was the former Orlando, Florida City Hall that was already scheduled to be removed and Warner Bros. paid $500,000 for the demolition so the audience could see a real building being destroyed. You eagle eyed viewers can see the current city hall directly behind the imploded building.
