Scene of the Week: Highlander: Endgame – Connor vs Duncan
When 2000’s Highlander: Endgame released, I was like a giddy fanboy. Growing up a massive fan of Christopher Lambert’s Connor MacLeod and later Adrian Paul as his cousin Duncan MacLeod, it was like watching one of the modern day MCU films but 20 years earlier. We were getting to see the movie Highlander team up with the television Highlander and I was 100% there for it. What I didn’t know was that they would be facing off with the fate of the world at stake.
Team up movies are all the rage now and most of them show us the heroes at odds with one another before finally teaming up to face off against the ultimate villain. Well, Highlander went above and beyond because in this faceoff of “Scottish” immortals only one will walk away with a head. It is fitting that Duncan, who has always been the more natural on screen fighter, walks away and is able to go toe-to-toe with Bruce Payne’s psychotic villain but it was good that it was Duncan who finally got to end the life of his good friend Connor. The ultimate passing of the torch for the franchise. There CAN be only one, of course.
