Scene of the Week: Snake vs. Ox
The John Carpenter classic, Escape from New York, hit theaters on July 10, 1981. Starring Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, Escape from New York is my favorite of the Carpenter/Russell collaborations and a movie that I never tire of watching.
Selecting just a single scene to celebrate Escape from New York‘s anniversary in this week’s Scene of the Week was no easy task since it is a movie filled with memorable moments. The wrestling fan in me won out and I couldn’t resist the Snake Plissken vs. Slag battle! Slag was played by professional wrestler Ox Baker. Baker is infamous for inciting a riot in Cleveland one night during his heyday and was also a contestant on The Price is Right. But here Ox is the dragon that Snake Plissken must slay in front of a crowd almost as raucous as the one in Cleveland back in 1974…
