Scene of the Week: The Poseidon Adventure

The Poseidon Adventure is easily my favorite of the disaster movies that were all the rage in the early 1970s. The story of an ocean liner capsizing due to a tsunami induced tidal wave is fun enough but the cast of characters is why The Poseidon Adventure shines. Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Roddy McDowall, Stella Stevens and Shelley Winters all stand out and I always find Leslie Nielsen serious roles to be fun.

This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at the exact moment the tidal wave hits the SS Poseidon and the how everyone inside lives got flipped-turned upside down. The practical effects are a highlight and some of the stun performers definitely earned their pay.
