Scene of the Week: Hercules in New York
New York City is one of the most iconic and influential cities in the world. Having served as the backdrop for countless movies over the decades everyone from Jason Voorhees to The Muppets have made their way to New York City to create motion picture magic.
Another iconic character made his way to NYC way back in 1970 when Hercules, bored with life on Mount Olympus, went against his father Zeus’ wishes and ventured to The Big Apple where hilarity and hijinks ensued in Hercules in New York. Hercules was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hercules in New York was Arnold’s acting debut… humble beginnings.
In this week’s Scene of the Week, Hercules and his friend/sidekick Pretzie (Arnold Stang) find themselves pursing some mobsters in a rather unique fashion. The mobsters believe Hercules has double crossed them (in actuality Herc was a victim of his evil step mother Juno’s vindictiveness). The mobsters also believe that Hercules was in the car with his love interest Helen and her father Professor Camden (James Karen), which is exactly what Helen wanted them to believe. But Hercules can not stand by while the Camdens put themselves in harms way for him and the result is a movie chase like no other…
