Ryan Shoots First: House of the Dragon (S1 Ep6) “The Princess and the Queen”
The next phase begins and there are like 10 kids names I need to learn now. And I don’t know if you know but they don’t always get creative with names in Westeros.
We have fast-forwarded 10 years following the events of what fans are calling “The Green Wedding”. Lanor and Rhanyra are married with some children and still keeping to their arrangement made all those years ago. King Viserys is still kicking but barely. Without giving to much away in this section let’s just say there is some question to who exactly Rhanyra’s kids look like. This of course causes all kinds of tension, back-channeling, and passive-aggressive behavior. The way the show sews these moments into the plot anyone who has ever had family drama or siblings with kids can attest to the authenticity. So much is said in the show without words and what I appreciate the most is it does not handhold the audience. It trusts us to pick up on this and read into the silence. Not many shows have that confidence in themselves and their audience.
Beyond that the deaths have begun coming fast and furious. With this soft re-pilot of the show, the stakes are high and as adults, Alicent and Rhaneyra start playing their hands. This has consequences that will reverberate across the realm. They all got kids now and they will do whatever they need to protect their legacy. It looks like next week picks up again as they will be cramming a lot into this back half of the season. The gloves are off, also Vagar is a bomb-ass dragon.
Observations
- Well that’s one way to meet Older Rhanyra
- Ohh man, Alicent already making power moves asking for that baby right away.
- Somebody get Vis a hat for goodness sake
- Yeaaaa something doesn’t add up with those kids
- Awww he’s just a whittle baby dragon
- No show has ever been more proud of its ability to make you hate kids than thrones
- HAHA the weight of our parent’s expectations when all a teen wants to do is wack off in his window
- That Chonky Boi dragon is cool
- I’m confused like this. I guess Daemon figured out his intimacy issues, but I can’t buy that he’s changed.
- We saw a very similar scene in Rings of Power this week, who did it better?
- The way these kids are getting caught up in their parent’s passive-aggressive drama is sad and scarily accurate to the way parents raise kids today.
- The way this show nails family drama and the looks people give is unmatched.
- I can’t be the only person expecting to find a finger in that pie
- Ok this scene is sad but that is a Bad Ass Dragon
- A wife that supports her husband’s friendships is a good woman my friends
- Man we are wiping people out like crazy.
- So there is a theory that this rat is actually clubfoot who is a greenseeer. That’s how he gets all the tea.
