Bullet Points: Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday
Scott Adkins really started making his presence felt in the world of action back in 2006 with his portrayal of Yuri Boyka in Undisputed 2: Last Man Standing. Since then Adkins has built an impressive body of work filled with hard hitting action and some of the highest quality martial arts mayhem in movies. However one movie stood out above the rest for me… 2018’s Accident Man.
Scott Adkins has had his share of great roles over the years, but “Accident Man” Mike Fallon was not just a great role for Adkins, it was a dream role for him. That fact alone gave Accident Man an advantage over every other movie Scott Adkins has ever been in… so I was not surprised to learn that Scott Adkins was reprising the role in Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday…
- Destination Malta: After the events of the original film, where hitman Mike Fallon crossed his boss and stacked up quite a body count in the process, Mike made the wise choice to get the hell out of London. Mike landed in Malta, where surprisingly he is actually finding some work in his field to keep him busy. More surprising is when Fallon bumps into a flame throwing Finicky Fred (Perry Benson reprising his role from the original). Fallon’s instinct is that Fred has been sent by Big Ray to track him down… however Fred nor Ray had any idea that Mike had made his way to Malta. Fred is actually there to meet the love of his life that he has been corresponding with online… Mike thinks poor Fred is being scammed, but in the meantime the two of them team up to meet Malta’s assassination needs. They even build an “Accident Man Cave” where they can test out Fred’s lethal gadgets for Mike to use during his jobs. Fred is like a more hands on Q to Mike Fallon’s James Bond and becomes a genuine mate to Mike, which comes into play later in the film.
- New Blood: A new character is introduced in the form of Wong Siu-ling. Wong Siu-ling was a waitress at a dive bar in Malta that Mike would frequent and when he saw the way she handled some of the customers, Mike paid her to come work for him in a very unorthodox way. I won’t get into details about the nature of their deal, but I will say I wish I was a furniture retailer in Malta… sales would be on the rise for sure!
- Dante’s Inferno: The good times come to an abrupt halt when Mike and Fred are picked up by some goons who work for the notorious Mrs. Zuuzer (Faminia Cinque). Mrs. Zuuzer believes her no good son’s recent brush with death was actually an accident that didn’t go the way “Accident Man” Mike Fallon wanted… Mike and Fred convince Mrs. Zuuzer that they did not have anything to do with her son Dante (George Fouracres) nearly blowing up, but then it is out of the frying pan and into the fire as Mrs. Zuuzer then tasks Mike Fallon to take out the assassins trying to kill her son… basically taking him from hitman to bodyguard. Mrs. Zuuzer throws in the caveat that IF Mike doesn’t take out those trying to kill Dante, that she will in turn have Finicky Fred killed!
- Crank it Up: At this point the movie cranks everything up to eleven with Mike doing his best to protect the pop star wanna be, onesie wearing man child that is Dante Zuuzer while battling a gauntlet of memorable assassins that include Yendi the Vampire (Faisal Mohammed), Oyumi (Andreas Nguyen), the Brad Pitt wanna be Silas the San Francisco Strangler (Peter Lee Thomas) and last but not least Poco the Killer Clown (Beau Fowler) who in addition to having a giant clown hammer made out of a cinder block has a medical condition that makes him completely numb to pain. And I can’t not mention Big Ray (Ray Stevenson reprising his role from the original) who shows up in Malta, none too happy that the man he raised like his own son, Mike Fallon, destroyed his business in London and now is in Malta making money with his lackey Finicky Fred… a pissed off Big Ray is big trouble, as if Mike Fallon needed anymore of that.
Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday took everything I loved about the original and amplified it! The action, the characters, the pacing… there’s no aspect of the movie that did not feel better than the original. Plus, leaning into the comedy benefitted the movie and the Mike Fallon character. Fallon may go down as Adkins’ most likable character when it is all said and done.
I don’t know if there are plans to continue this franchise, but if there are I’ll be on board because I am ready for more Accident Man. And if you are ready for more bullet points, check out these Accident Man: Hitman’s Holiday Bonus Bullet Points…
