Ryan Shoots First: Andor (S1 Ep6) “The Eye”
First, Disney we need to talk. Let’s take a look at House of the Dragon. It goes live at 9pm EST on HBO Max every week. By say 11pm EST, it’s the number one trending topic and everyone is talking about it for the next day.
Releasing your shows at 3am EST in the middle of the week almost guarantees no collective reaction. We’re all watching it at different times. No one wants to spoil it, people that need to work aren’t watching it till maybe the next afternoon so the reaction comes in as a trickle. A fantastic episode like this one should be event watching. A place where we as fans can come together and experience then discuss together.
Fix this!
So now that that is out of the way and I’m sure the higher ups in power have heard and and are right now brainstorming ways to fix it, let’s get to the episode. It was fantastic. We talked last week how the show is taking a 3 episode arc approach so far with this being the mini finale to the second arc of the series and it was so well done. Constant tension from beginning to end as the team executed their plan. The music in the back ground swelling through each scene before reaching a breaking point by the end. All shot beneath the back drop of the Scottish Highlands with a spectacular planetary display taking place over head.
As you might imagine the plan isn’t without some issues and how the team soldiers on and reacts to it when really none of them know or generally care too much for the others was interesting to see. The early days of the rebellion are fascinating. So many down on their luck rouges who are all for the cause until their life is really on the line or there is a hefty sum of credits tempting them. How to get people to fight for the cause, to die for it. To fight for the next generation to have it better than you in world you may never get to see. Sure by A New Hope there are plenty of true believers but at this time it’s one scoundrel after another who yes hates the empire but not enough to hurt themselves in the process.
Fascinating character work, intense tension and beautiful visuals make this a stellar episode and I can’t wait for the next arc to begin.
I just wish we all could have seen it together.
