What If PM Entertainment Had a Box Set Volume 2?
This past summer, inspired by Arrow Video’s Shaw Scope releases, I played a little game of “What If?” and imagined what a PM Entertainment box set might look like. The article got a tremendous response from PM Entertainment fans everywhere (if you missed it click here) and I knew it was only a matter of time before I started thinking about what a second PM Entertainment box set would look like…
Disc One – Firepower / Rage
1993’s Firepower was Gary Daniels first major role in a PM Entertainment movie. Daniels’ Nick Sledge was the partner of Chad McQueen’s Darren Braniff, I said WAS because Sledge eventually gets his head cut off by the Ultimate Warrior after the two cops infiltrate Los Angeles’ Hell Zone to investigate the source of a bogus and deadly vaccine.

If there was a quintessential PM Entertainment movie it may very well be 1995’s Rage. Starring PM Entertainment poster boy, Gary Daniels as Alex Gainer… a man who is used a a human guinea pig by a corrupt right-wing militia group to create the perfect soldier… resulting in one memorable action sequence after the next including one in a PM Entertainment-centric video store!
- Special Features: Commentary track with Director Joseph Merhi and Gary Daniels – Original Trailer
Disc Two – Ring of Fire II: Blood and Steel / Cyber Tracker 2
1993’s Ring of Fire II: Blood and Steel takes the love story between Johnny Woo (Don “The Dragon” Wilson) and Julie (Maria Ford) in a totally different direction, after Julie is abducted and held captive in an underground world beneath the streets of Los Angeles where Kalin (Ian Jacoby) is king. Johnny is going to rescue the love of his life and he doesn’t do it alone, getting help from the returning Dale Jacoby, Vince Murdocco, Ron Yuan and Eric Lee.
- Special Features: Commentary track with Director Richard Munchkin and Don “The Dragon” Wilson – Original Trailer
Don “The Dragon” Wilson’s war with the cyborgs continued in 1995’s Cyber Tracker 2, but this time it is former CIA agent / current international arms dealer, Paris Morgan (Anthony De Longis) using the cyborgs known as Trackers for his nefarious means. Stacie Foster and Steve Burton reprise their roles from the original, while the totally not related to Steve, Tony Burton, joined the cast as The Dragon’s boss, Commander Swain.
- Special Features: Commentary track with Director Richard Pepin and Don “The Dragon” Wilson – Original Trailer
Disc Three – Street Crimes / A Dangerous Place
1992’s Street Crimes stars Michael Worth as Tony, a young rookie cop who attempts to use kickboxing to help teens from falling into a life of crime and drugs. Along the way Tony falls in love with the daughter of his veteran partner (played by the late Dennis Farina) and manages to gain the wrath of gang leader, Gerardo.
- Special Features: Commentary Track with Michael Worth and Director/Writer Stephen Smoke – Original Trailer
1994’s A Dangerous Place was PM Entertainment’s answer to The Karate Kid, if The Karate Kid included staged suicides. One of those staged suicides was the brother of Ethan (Ted Jan Roberts). Ethan knows his brother would never kill himself, which means he has to find out what really happened. This puts Ethan at odds with the karate thugs known as The Scorpions, led by Taylor (Corey Feldman). Throw in Mako in the Mr. Miyagi spot and Marshall R. Teague in the John Kreese role and you have a pretty star studded offering.

Disc Four – C.I.A. Code Name: Alexa / C.I.A. II: Target Alexa
C.I.A. agent Mark Graver (Lorenzo Lamas) has to convince a female terrorist named Alexa (Kathleen Kinmont) to turn against her former comrades in an effort to bring them down in 1992’s C.I.A. Code Name: Alexa. Being able to tap into the real life chemistry of Lamas and Kinmont was a plus for this action thriller and you also get a simpler times O.J. Simpson.
- Special Features: Commentary track with Lorenzo Lamas, Director Joseph Merhi and Writer Ken Lamplugh – Original Trailer
The 1993 follow up, C.I.A. II: Target Alexa saw Lorenzo Lamas pull double duty as the star and the director… although one could argue that Kinmont’s Alexa steps into the star role in the sequel. This time out it is all about a nuclear guidance system and once again the C.I.A. needs Alexa’s help to eliminate the bad guys.
- Special Features: Interviews with Lorenzo Lamas, Branscombe Richmond and Kathleen Kinmont – Original Trailer
Disc Five – Land of the Free / Executive Target
Jeff Speakman plays Frank Jennings, the campaign manager to successful businessman turned political candidate Aidan Carvell (William Shatner) in 1998’s Land of the Free. After Frank finds out that Carvell is the front for a group looking to overthrow the government, Frank has to fall back on his past military training to help expose the truth about Carvell and keep his own family safe from the right-wingers he is going up against. Plus, it has Mac from Night Court!
- Special Features: Interviews with Jeff Speakman and William Shatner – Original Trailer
Some of the promotional material touted 1997’s Executive Target as having “the best car chase since Bullitt” and calling it “the best crash movie ever made” so you know PM Entertainment’s brand of vehicular mayhem is heavily featured. But that’s only part of the story, there’s also an all-star cast that includes Michael Madsen, Keith David, Angie Everhart and Roy Scheider as the President of the United States! And where else are you going to get a movie about a stunt driver forced to take part in a plot to kidnap the President?!
- Special Features: Commentary track with Michael Madsen, Keith David and Director Joseph Merhi – Original Trailer
Disc Six – Maximum Force / Fist of Honor
1992’s Maximum Force finds a trio of cops (Sam J. Jones, Sherrie Rose and Jason Lively) recruited to take down a notorious crime boss, Max Tanabe (Richard Lynch). Each cop has their own personal vendetta against Tanabe and their own set of skills. Also starring John Saxon, Mickey Rooney and Sonny Landham.
- Special Features: L.A. Heat (S1 Ep12) “Old Scores” guest starring Sam J. Jones – Original Trailer
In 1993’s Fist of Honor, PM Entertainment delved into the world of organized crime. Sam J. Jones played Fist, a debt collector who finds himself in the middle of a mob war in Los Angeles. Also starring Abe Vigoda, Harry Guardino, Bubba Smith and Vince Murdocco.
- Special Features: L.A. Heat (S2 Ep20) “Legacy of a Buffalo Soldier” guest starring Sam J. Jones – Original Trailer
Disc Seven – Running Red / Zero Tolerance
In 1999’s Running Red, Jeff Speakman plays an ex-Soviet special agent that leaves Russia, after his brother was murdered, to start a new life in the United States. But as is often the case, the past comes back to haunt Greg (or is it Gregori?). Throw in Angie Everhart as Greg’s hot wife and an action scene involving two buses and this one becomes must see for PM fans.
- Special Features: Interviews with Jeff Speakman and Angie Everhart – Original Trailer
1994’s Zero Tolerance finds FBI Agent Jeff Douglas (Robert Patrick) at odds with drug lord Ray Manta (Titus Welliver) and the other members of The White Hand cartel. After The White Hand makes things very personal, all bets are off and Jeff Douglas is out for revenge one finger at a time!
- Special Features: Commentary track with Director Joseph Merhi, Robert Patrick and Titus Welliver – Original Trailer
Come on man, don’t tease us like this.
