Scene of the Week: “Who Made Who”
I don’t care what anyone else says about Maximum Overdrive, I am a fan. I agree with all those that enjoy the campy horror action but I can understand those who disagree. However, I don’t know what people except from a movie that has sentient machines attacking humans thanks to a comet. I don’t watch it for high brow cinema or even a movie that will make me think. I watch Maximum Overdrive to see some over the top action, a Green Goblin truck, Lisa Simpson aka Yeardley Smith sharing the screen with the Mighty Duck man himself Emilio Estevez and last and certainly not least for the hard rocking AC/DC soundtrack.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at the opening scene from Maximum Overdrive. The machinery operating a bascule bridge gets a mind of is own ruining the commute for some local drivers. AC/DC’s “Who Made Who” blasts during the credits and is a perfect song to go along with the vehicular carnage (and makes a great logo for a van). You know you are in for a good time right from the start… but those watermelons! I can see Vince Majestyk getting choked up at the sight of those massacred melons.
