Ryan Shoots First: The Mandalorian (S3 Ep2) “Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore”
Some big things this week that fans of Mandalorian mythology will really enjoy. As Din continues his quest to bathe in the waters beneath Mandalore he will actually visit the war-torn planet. It was something else to see Mandalore finally in live action. From being this thing made up for backstory, then to have all this lore given behind it back in old Legends stories, then to see it in The Clone Wars to now. Arguably one of the longest payoffs in all of Star Wars.
As you may imagine Din’s visit to his ancestral homeland isn’t all a walk down memory lane though. There are many dangers lurking in this forsaken land but as dangerous as they may be as Bo mentions If they survived what else did? Perhaps this land isn’t as cursed as everyone thought. As a matter of fact, the big reveal at the end of the episode just may in fact be enough to get Bo off the sidelines and back in the game. I hope to see Bo and Mando find some middle ground. He is too driven by the ridiculous Dogma of his religion and she is so far the other way given up on her people and her creed. I hope they come together and can forge a new path forward for their people steeped in history but not a slave to it.
Internally this was another action-packed episode bouncing all over the galaxy. This season seems to be moving much faster than previous ones. Much has been made of Mando and his side quests but we are 2 episodes in and he has already achieved the goal he set out at the beginning of the season. So where he goes from here is a mystery and while there are a few shots from the trailer we have not seen yet it appears the majority of the trailer was from these first 2 episodes. Now that Din has done what he set out to do how will this new revelation at the end of the episode and Bo’s reaction to it drive his next move? I look forward to finding out.
Observations
- Well that looks like a fun time

- Hey he’s using the light that came with the Black Series helmet!
- Well that’s new
- That behind view gave me some “Grogus day out” vibes
- That part would have been so much cooler if it wasn’t in the trailer
- Man to see Mandalore like that after knowing Bo in the Clone Wars its easy to see how losing all that affected her.
- Ohh the Bo thirst traps are gonna be amazing after this.
- Dins just trying to take a bath man
