Ryan Shoots First: The Last of Us (S1 Ep9) “Look for the Light”
Man, that was a good hour of television. I know I am biased but that has to be one of the better finales to a debut season of any show. It was executed perfectly and hit every emotional tone and some it even added.
Some of the things Joel reveals are new to the show and I can’t wait to see the discussion around the finale and the choice Joel makes. It will be divisive and the character study of Joel is endlessly complex and layered. Pedro and Bella were amazing they were able to convey every emotion the story required and to start the show as strangers to end it in the way it did it takes two special performers to pull that off.
Season 2 will be even more divisive and I look forward to seeing how they handle it with all the flashbacks and other characters but this is a show I expect to get a ton of love come award season and whenever it comes back (likely 2 years from now) it will be one of the bigger TV events of that year.
As a massive fan of the game, I always hoped it would be adapted so a larger audience could experience the amazing story. It just translates so well to the medium. I had hope that it would be great. Then when I found out HBO would be handling it I knew they could do it best. Then I heard Neil himself would be deeply involved and that gave me more hope. Then came the casting announcements and yes, I felt confident they could do the game justice. I was confident and had faith and with all that the show completely was above my expectations. I really feel it will go down as one of the best first seasons in TV history and it still has so much story left to tell. I don’t know what the plan is beyond season 2, perhaps a 3 game will come out by then but whatever it is I can’t wait for it to come back and explore the fallout of Joel’s decision.
Observations
- Great Cameo for Ashley
- So I guess the theory is the small dose of the virus while the cord was attached is how she is immune?
- DICK move Marlene
- The way they’re showing the two not knowing how to talk about what happened.. I really hope a certain scene doesn’t get cut.
- Haha that was funny, cause half the game is cutting through buildings to look for skyscrapers
- YES! When I tell you this moment in the game was one of the most emotional moments I’ve experienced in any media. Off the heels of what we just went through. The last moment before the end. So meaningful. Go to any fan of the game and just say “giraffes” and see their reaction.
- Oh man that’s a new twist
- I can’t with these two the way they say so much without saying it.
- Man to be someone piecing it all together
- I still can’t believe we’re watching this moment in a live-action top tier show
- Man the music, not presenting this as a heroic moment but almost a villain turn. So well done
- If you want a fun easter egg watch the motion capture performance of this scene where Neil tells Troy who plays Joel to no matter what just go with the scene.
