Scene of the Week: School Ties
School Ties is not a movie that I can put on at any time and watch the whole thing. I need to be in the right sort of mood because I know I am going to see some characters that I am going to hate. The story of star quarterback David Greene and the intolerance he faces at prep school is well worth watching, but there are some despicable people in it. I am talking about the characters, not the actors as Brendan Fraser, Matt Damon, Chris O’Donnell, Ben Affleck, Cole Hauser and Anthony Rapp all shine in early roles. And BulletproofAction.com would probably fire me if I didn’t mention Ed Lauter.
This week’s Scene of the Week takes a look at when the particularly vile Charlie Dillon (Matt Damon) chooses a unique time to let his fellow teammates know what he thinks about David’s Jewish religion that David has been keeping secret. Dillon opts to use offensive language and an offensive joke but the location really shows what a vulnerable situation David was in. Powerful stuff… if you can look past the pasty butts.
