Ryan Shoots First: Secret Invasion (Ep2) “Promises”
After an explosive premiere (see what I did there), Fury is left picking up the pieces of the attack on the Moscow square and the death of Maria Hill. The man who sees everything with both eyes open is missing a few things. Sadly it turns out that when it takes you a few decades to deliver on a promise you made to a warrior race, things don’t turn out so well.
I will say the show is proving to be a pleasant surprise, it has some really good performances from some big names, and the intrigue and spy thriller are just different enough to set it apart from other Super Hero titles. I know we haven’t seen an “R-rated” MCU film, but this toes the line from a violent aspect with some scenes of torture, terrorism, and killing—stuff you expect in a spy thriller. I like the idea of Nick getting back in the game and being the old dog but still with some tricks. The whole “I taught you all everything you know but not everything I know.” His backup plans have backup plans, and he always has a new angle. Oliva Coleman is one of the standouts so far. Besides Rody and Nick having a really good scene, her delivery and commitment to her role are one of my favorite things in the show so far. She doesn’t get a ton of scenes, but she makes the most out of every one of them.
This week gives some big reveals that the events that are transpiring are not random, they go back years, and of course, Fury is at the core. None of these people are strangers to each other, and yes, this episode also tackles the age-old “why not just call the Avengers” line we always hear. There are also some good teases for what’s coming and a Comic favorite that is likely coming at some point. Safe to say, two episodes in the series have me intrigued and have a lot to offer.
Observations
- Yeaaa so Fury kinda didn’t live up to his end of the deal
- I was right about the AI opening, people sure lost their stuff
- Damn Fury I mean you’re right but ouch…
- No one has moved at all in the background of the pane scene that was weird.
- 2000 civillians?? Wow
- Shooter McGavan makes his MCU debut!
- I mean that’s very clearly a terrorist attack why would Russia think it was an act of war??
- Again I like the fact there is a power vacuum with the avengers gone
- Super Skrulls??
- Rody aint playing around
- Dang that was a good scene between Cheadel and Jackson
- Oooh Easter Egg treasure trove!
- Olivia Coleman is right on in this role
- Yep Super Skrulls coming
- He married a Skrull?!?
