Bullet Points: Warrior (S3 Ep4) “In Chinatown, No One Thinks About Forever”
Our coverage of Warrior Season 3 continues in this edition of Bullet Points with a recap of Episode 4. There was a hot ending to Episode 3 and that’s exactly where “In Chinatown, No One Thinks About Forever” picks up…
- Aftermath: Episode 4 begins with the aftermath of the attack on Nellie Davenport’s vineyard in Sonoma… Nellie is not only heartbroken by all the destruction around her but also by the fact that Ah Toy (Olivia Cheng) tells her that she and Lai will be returning to Chinatown… Things get worse for Nellie later in the episode when she has her day in court and the judge rules against her. Allowing the government to claim Nellie’s land under eminent domain laws and allowing Douglas Strickland to move forward with the building of the railroad… Nellie gets in Strickland’s face, calling him a murderer and insinuating the only reason he is doing any of this is because she turned him down. Strickland is unshaken during Nellie’s tirade, but it is doubtful that this is the last he’ll hear from her.
- Hop to It: Agent Mosley and his new deputy Richard Lee turn their counterfeiting investigation to the streets of Chinatown as they personally are checking bills from all Chinatown merchants. That is when Lee discovers a pattern, all the counterfeit bills were found in Hop Wei territory and the most likely place that the Hop Wei would hide a printing press and more importantly the plates would be in Hop Wei headquarters. Agent Mosley informs Chief Atwood and it isn’t long before the SFPD (along with Mosley and Lee) are kicking down the Hop Wei’s front door and begin tearing up the place. Meanwhile Lee and his old partner Bill O’Hara (Kieran Bew) have a chance to work side by side once again as they search the entire Hop Wei building, eventually finding a secret door that leads to a room that HAD a large item (like a printing press) in it, but is now empty. Bill assumes that Chou probably tipped them off and that once again his new boss Chief Atwood handled this whole operation the wrong way. Bill also intervenes when Chief Atwood is delivering a beating to Young Jun (Jason Tobin) after Jun made an off color remark about Atwood’s mother (specifically her smelly pussy). Atwood does not appreciate O’Hara putting hands on him.
- Fools in the Rain: Tasked with getting the printing press and plates out of Hop Wei HQ was Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji) and Yan Mi as they have the press on a covered cart being pulled by a burrow down the dark, rainy streets of Chinatown doing their best to avoid the cops that are all over the place looking for members of the Hop Wei. Eventually, the duo hit a dead end… and that’s where Ah Sahm springs into action, taking out multiple police officers and Yan Mi finding herself providing an assist… this is not what she signed up for. After getting to safety following that pulse pounding moment, soaking wet Ah Sahm and Yan Mi find themselves doing some pounding of their own… if you know what I mean.
- Things Get Awkward: Mai Ling (Dianne Doan) once again finds herself spending time with her new friend Eliza and Eliza’s banker husband, Bernard… Mai Ling’s venturing outside of Chinatown continues to trouble Li Yong (Joe Taslim) since he is unable to protect her, something he shares with Kong Pak (Mark Dacascos) during a sparring session. Before the end of the episode Li Yong’s worries will come true… Mai Ling brings money for Bernard to invest for her, later she joins him for a game of billiards and when Eliza steps out of the room, Bernard tries to kiss Mai Ling… she puts a quick stop to that, this is strictly business for her… However, when Mai Ling is invited back to Eliza’s home in the closing moments of the show, she finds out she was not the only one invited… Eliza had called the police and they waste no time arresting Mai Ling for solicitation. It turns out Bernard told Eliza some lies to save his own ass. The whole thing catches Mai Ling off guard (as does the literal slap in the face from Eliza) and it appears Mai Ling is going to jail, something that will send shockwaves throughout Chinatown!
Another quality cliffhanger ending for Episode 4… With both Young Jun and Mai Ling coming out the worse for wear, could this crack the door open for a unified Hop Wei/Long Zi front? That’s a great question and speaking of questions…
- Will Zing Return in Episode 5?: There was still no sign of Dustin Nguyen’s Zing in Episode 4. But I will continue asking this question until he returns.
- What is the Strickland/Leary alliance all about?: Dylan Leary pays Douglas Strickland another visit. Leary points out he did Strickland a favor, but he had 40 guys he promised jobs to and now that’s not going to happen. Strickland tells him he’ll hire 40 of Leary’s men BUT once again tells Leary he needs to be thinking bigger. He then proposes an alliance that will be mutually beneficial for both, but before Leary (and the viewers) can get any details of what this alliance entails (I still say a mayoral campaign for Leary)… Leary is invited to have a drink with Strickland and his other guests for the evening, the Judge who ruled in his favor earlier in the episode, as well as three lovely ladies.
- Is Buckley going to get married?: The mysterious Miss Archer and acting Mayor Buckley have dinner at a fine restaurant and people are taking notice. At dinner Buckley learns more about Archer’s past and her desires to be a part of his future, whether he wins or loses the mayoral race… although she makes it clear she’s not going to let him lose.
