Ryan Shoots First: Secret Invasion (Ep3) “Betrayed”
After the revelation last week that there are over a million Skrulls chilling on earth and being told to hit the bricks by Roddy, Nick is in the weeds.
This week’s episode features some great back And forth between Fury and Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos. Their interactions have been a treat all season but after their blow up on the train last week they both have their cards out on the table now as they grow more and more desperate. It’s clear both admire the other but trust is a word I think both would be hesitant to use.
This week’s episode may be light on action but as the story ramps up and we reach the halfway point the stakes are growing and therefore so is the stress. No one is feeling that more than Emily Clarke G’iah. She’s split between two worlds as she has a difficult past with her father but also isn’t as radicalized as Gravik. With both sides leaning on her more and more she can only walk in both worlds for so long. And yes I case you’re wondering Olivia Coleman gets another show stealing scene as she continues to be one of my favorite things about the show.
Whether the show finds an audience remains to be seen. I have to imagine those watching out of allegiance to marvel are probably not enthralled in the story but as I said last week, for a fun summer time spy adventure to pass the time I really feel the show hits its mark. I also feel there is a big shock or mega twist somewhere coming. Not necessarily a death but the revelation that some key characters in the MCU have been Skrulls this whole time. If you know nothing else from the series in the comics the show is based on that is probably what you remember. The long list of shocking reveals of who were actually Skrulls. It will be interesting to see if the show goes a similar route as it seems to be leading to some similar themes.
