Bullet Points: Warrior (S3 Ep9) “All of Death Is Going Home”
It is penultimate episode time for Season 3 of Warrior and coming off a hot episode last week, Episode 9 managed to get things even hotter heading into the Season Finale…
- The Revenge of Lai: The show gets right into the action as Lai, who we learned last week had infiltrated the Strickland estate, makes her move on taking out Douglas Strickland… to her credit, Lai meets him head on instead of going the surprise route. Although she may have wished she used the element of surprise, when here badly wounded body is dumped on the doorstep of Nellie Davenport, who then returns her to Ah Toy’s brothel in Chinatown… While Lai did not give Douglas Strickland much trouble, the same can’t be said for his “business partner” Dylan Leary. Leary is still watching out for his people, so when Strickland gives him a tour of the bridge that is being built and straight up tells Leary, he is going to use Chinese laborers for as long as he can, Leary takes offense and their partnership seems to be over. Sometimes things are exactly as they seem, because later that night Leary gathers some of his men and they blow up Strickland’s bridge… by the end of the episode Strickland has sent some hired guns to go to Leary’s bar and kill him, but Leary turns the tables on them and something is awakened inside Leary that can’t possibly be good for Strickland.
- The Rise of Big Bill: Big Bill O’Hara is feeling the effects of his bare knuckle brawl with Chief Atwood from last week as he is getting ready for another day of work… but Bill’s wife interrupts and tells him there is somebody at the door for him. Bill goes downstairs and sees two cops at the door and figures he is going to be arrested for what he did to Atwood. Instead, Mayor Buckley wants to talk to him and get his side of the story. Atwood is laid up in the hospital with his jaw wired shut. Atwood’s written statement stated that Bill attacked him, Bill said that did not happen. Then Buckley mentions that the cops on duty all said Atwood showed up to the police station drunk and fell down the stairs… Bill says that sounds like something he might do and soon after we have Chief of Police Bill O’Hara!
- The Last Day of Father Jun: The prognosis for Father Jun is not good… his blood has been poisoned and there is really nothing the doctors can do. Father Jun then asks his son to do to him what he wish he had done when he took over the reigns of the Hop Wei… Father Jun doesn’t want to be remembered as a sickly old man who has lost his mind. Young Jun tells his father he loves him and then mercy kills him… Later in the episode, Father Jun is honored at his funeral including a beautiful eulogy delivered by Chao… that evening Young Jun, Hong and Ah Sahm share a drink in Father Jun’s honor… with the toast “brothers forever”, which is ironic considering what Ah Sahm is working on…
- The Fall of Yan Mi: Agents Mosley and Lee find out that Yan Mi was lying about her knowledge of the counterfeit money and in fact, she was printing the funny money for the tongs. They ask her where the plates are, she tells them she does not know and she is then soon arrested. When Yan Mi’s brother blames Ah Sahm for his sister’s incarceration… Ah Sahm goes down to the police station and has a meeting with the new Chief, Mosley and Lee and cuts a deal… he will tell them where the plates are IF they will let Yan Mi go… Ah Sahm knows Young Jun will not forgive him for this, but figures by the time Young Jun figures it out.. Ah Sahm will be long gone, he has decided to leave Chinatown with Yan Mi… doesn’t sound like “brothers forever” to me!
It seems like all roads will lead to the ice factory for next week’s big season finale! With no word yet on a fourth season, the series could wrap up with Ah Sahm leaving Chinatown, just like it began with him arriving in Chinatown… but that’s assuming Ah Sahm’s plan goes off without a hitch and if Warrior has taught me anything, that’s not bloody likely.
What is likely is me wrapping up this review with a few questions…
- How Good is Chao?: After Chao is closing up shop for the night, he finds himself dealing with Isaac… the man who ascended to the throne when Happy Jack was no longer in the picture. Isaac can’t let those responsible for Jack’s death go unpunished, but the ever quick thinking Chao convinces Isaac he is more valuable dead than alive and I think we may see some unexpected guests at the ice factory next week as a result.
- Is the Honeymoon Over?: We only got to check in with newlyweds Mai Ling and Li Yong briefly… but it’s not a good sign that Mai Ling is so scared of what her husband might do that she is surrounding herself with guards in her own home. Mai Ling has experienced the highest of highs in Season 3 along with some lows… but it feels like the lowest of lows could be coming next week.
- Will Zing Return?: I’ve asked every week since the beginning, this is my last week to ask.
