90’s nostalgia meets video game violence in a new film featuring martial arts icon Billy Blanks! Earlier this week, a Kickstarter campaign for Shooting Blanks, a project featuring the Tae Bo guru and action movie superstar was announced, and it’s one that will have fans of Billy’s filmography salivating!
Taking elements from 80’s-90’s direct to VHS films, the meta-humor in modern entertainment, side-scrolling fighting games like Streets of Rage and Double Dragon, and even inspiration from Quentin Tarantino, Shooting Blanks promises to deliver an action comedy that would fit in well alongside all of your video store era favorites!
Starring Billy Blanks as a fictionalized version of himself (one who just happened to be a ninja mercenary on top of being a movie star and Tae Bo instructor), the film sees Billy struggling to stay relevant in a world that has passed him by. When his past as a mercenary comes back to haunt him, Billy has to rescue his daughter from an old ninja rival, setting the stage for a blowout battle between the evil “Dark Bo” ninja clan and Billy and his loyal students!
