Ryan Shoots First: Ahsoka (Ep7) “Dreams and Madness”
They got me! After two absolutely amazing weeks, I anticipated this week to be the letdown. The synopsis read of Hera having to deal with the New Republic backlash and while I was perfectly fine seeing that it did feel like this would be a letdown a bit after two weeks back to back of just straight pure fire right in the veins. I was telling myself, “It’s ok, this is the cool down episode then we ramp up again towards the looming finale. All shows need this.”
I was wrong, while not on par with the last two, this episode delivers more than I expected and in a very well-paced and well-balanced form. I mentioned in my observations this episode felt a lot like a Game of Thrones episode where we have scenes with individuals spread out all over. You might have one character get a scene, then we dart across the realms to another all eventually coming together. This felt much like that, starting with Hera, then darting to Ahsoka, then to Thrawn, then to Sabine, then to Baylen. Then all converging at the end of the episode. It was so tidy and well laid out it was a joy to watch.
I just so love this show, probably more than anything since The Force Awakens. That is hard to beat because it was Star Wars again at a time when we had all made peace with the fact we wouldn’t have it anymore. Beyond that thrill nothing had matched this show. Week after week my soul is happy, I stop to realize I have been sitting there with a huge smile on my face and I bust out giggling at all the one-liners and creature bits. It’s the most Star Wars anything has felt in such a long time. The show not only gets Star Wars but it nails Star Wars so well. All the bits that we’ve seen that sometimes feel forced or cheesy don’t. The beats hit just right, it’s so familiar but yet so new. For a while Andor and Mando S1 were neck and neck for my favorite but Ahsoka has really just blown in and taken the mantle. It now has its sights set squarely on The Clone Wars for the title of favorite non-movie thing. Look out Dave, Dave is coming for you!
This feels like a Star Wars I don’t have to apologize for or rationalize to haters and that is an amazing feeling. God help us even Star Wars Theory likes it.
Observations
- I can’t with Chopper sitting in a chair
- Ackbar!! I’m not gonna say it.
- New threads for Hera
- I like the reference to the Mando finale
- 3PO! He’s my oldest friend.
- HAHA Chop is ready to add to his body count
- I love this cause Ahsoka would often go on solo missions in The Clone Wars so that Anakin would prepare these vids for her makes sense.
- Huyang is quickly becoming my favorite droid ever, he’s such a full-fledged character.
- Whale Wars
- Been a minute since we had a dog fight!
- That’s the look when you realize your dealing with Anakin’s kid
- Also, Thrawn and Anakin have a decent history in cannon
- The pacing in this episode has been great
- That look Sabine gives, how do these two have such good chemistry already?
- I swear this feels like a Game of Thrones episode with the pacing and darting around eventually brining threads together.
- Nice for Shin to have the matching Warg
- I love the hermit crab people
- Ok yep Huyang is my favorite
- Ezra with that “I don’t need a saber” confidence
