Ryan Shoots First: Loki (S2 Ep3) “1893”
This week on Loki we saw the return of the big bad of this phase of the MCU…kind of. As team TVA searches to find a way to stop the reactor meltdown they need the missing Miss Minutes. Their journey gives them a little more than they bargain for as they run into an early variant of he who remains himself.
I’ll leave the outside stuff about Jonathan Majors aside for now and leave you to your own opinions but it seems for now Marvel seems to just want to push on. There is still so much we don’t know about where things are heading with Avengers: Kang Dynasty and this episode while I suppose building on it didn’t do much to make that picture any clearer. I can’t decide whether that mystery is good or bad. With Thanos, it was pretty straightforward. A race to collect some McGuffins and stop the super-strong guy. Now we have time stuff and multiverse stuff and everything is just really hazy. There is still plenty of time to get things going and I’m confident they know what they’re doing but we’re all still kind of waiting for THAT moment where the path becomes a bit clearer and we all feel we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It remains to be seen how Victor Timely will factor into the bigger picture but it feels like so many things feel like the next big step only to just be a half step.
But for this episode, it was a little slow. It was cool seeing the 1800-period clothing and environment. I can’t imagine what it would have been like to go to a World Fair back then and see insane things that prob did feel like dark magic. That all was fun and Majors delivery was as committed as he’s been but the episode itself just seems to be a bit drug out. We’ll see how it shakes out as we are back at the TVA trying to save everyone next week.
