Ryan Shoots First: Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (S1 Ep7) “Will the Real May Please Stand Up?”
We are winding down in Season 1 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and this week we focus on May and her mysterious background. Last week we saw the ramifications of the deal she made to save herself and how it reflected on her companions. It’s getting hard to track all the betrayals and deals the various parties have made at this point I really feel everyone has betrayed and teamed with everyone at this point. Almost like if they all just got in a room together and talked everyone could come away happy. But shows gotta show!
Again this week we spend the entirety of the episode in the modern era but at this point, it feels like after last week there isn’t much else to explore in the old timeline. We have now seen how Shaw lost everything when he lost control of Monarch and the love of his life and we have already seen her death so it feels like there isn’t too much more to explore there so I would not be surprised if we append the majority of the remainder of the season in the modern era especially as the Monster Mystery about G Day 2 gets closer to the finale.
The May angle was pretty good and did well to explain why she has been on the run and even gave a pretty big Monsterverse Easter egg to what is coming down the line in Godzilla vs. Kong. It seems like identifying the good guys and bad guys has been tricky but to some degree, I believe that has been the point. These shady government types all have their agendas but the Randa kids and their search for their dad is what is supposed to keep grounding us in the story. Sometimes we get away from that but the show makes an effort to recenter periodically. With most the internal drama now out of the way it seems with 3 episodes left we will have a final push to the finale in a few weeks.

- Every episode has been someone deciding they want to quit then changing their minds.
